Core Services
Narrative Building
Identifying and building on extracurriculars and summer activities that lend to a cohesive narrative that both enhances a student’s competitiveness and reflects his/her college goals/intentions.
We also offer support for personal enrichment projects (PEPs); see below for more details.
Course Planning
Helping students identify classes that demonstrate the appropriate level of rigor for their college goals and are consistent with their strengths and interests.
Test Planning
Helping students choose between the SAT and ACT, identify whether they need AP exams, set appropriate target scores, and develop a testing schedule that works with their academic, sports, and extracurricular schedules.
List Building
Assisting students in identifying the characteristics in a college that comprise a “good fit” and building a list of colleges that reflect these characteristics and are reasonably balanced in selectivity. Also helping students strategize around early decision/early action and identify which college campuses to see when.
Application Support
Implementing and overseeing an organizational framework to help break down the process into manageable chunks, helping with all components of the essay process including the Common App essay and supplements, assisting with a resume, and supporting students in demonstrating interest at the colleges to which they are applying (including interview prep).
Additional Services
Aptitude Testing
Includes the Highlands Ability Battery (HAB), comprehensive academic and career reports, and a personalized debrief session with our certified Highlands consultant. To schedule your assessment, or to learn more about aptitude testing, please complete this form.
Personal Enrichment Project (PEP)
Tailored for students seeking independent, flexible projects over traditional extracurricular programs. Students work in a 1:1 capacity with their PEP advisor to identify their interests, develop a structured plan, and execute an individual project that the student retains full ownership of. Examples include designing and coding an app, launching an online teen journal with recruited staff, starting a nonprofit for social justice with planned events, and creating a graphic novel for publication.
